Robert (RW) and Margaret Garcia, pioneering founders of national, better-for-you snack brand RW Garcia, have been inducted into the Specialty Food Association’s 2019 Hall of Fame. They were honored at the 65th Annual Summer Fancy Food Show, held June 23-25 in New York City.
The Specialty Food Association Hall of Fame’s mission is to honor individuals whose accomplishments, impact, contributions, innovations and successes within the specialty food industry deserve praise and recognition.
The Garcia’s started their company in 1982 with the simple idea of making healthy, delicious, gluten-free tortilla chips with better ingredients and no preservatives, additives or GMOs. They started out small, driving their van from grocery store to grocery store throughout California to sell their unique snacks into the chip aisle – well before better-for-you snacking was even a category and in 2009, RW Garcia became the first snack company ever to earn Non-GMO Project verification.
But the idea and the company’s delicious snacks caught on quickly, and the brand’s popularity soon spread throughout California and beyond for distribution in grocery stores nationwide. They continued their pursuit to make their products better, and today three generations work in the family business dedicated to creating the now-famous chips and crackers that are made in company-owned, sustainably operated facilities.
“Everything we’ve done at RW Garcia comes from a place of wanting something better for ourselves, our family, our environment and our customers. We have a passion for better, from our manufacturing practices to our ingredients to our end products,” said Robert Garcia. “Being inducted into the Specialty Food Hall of Fame is a wonderful affirmation of what we’ve worked toward and stood for over the past 37 years, and we’re so incredibly honored.”
RW Garcia’s current product line includes organic artisan crackers, three-seed crackers, organic corn chips and MixtBag tortilla chips. For complete product line information and where to buy, go to www.RWGarcia.com.
