Eastern Standard Provisions Company, based in Boston, Mass., is the latest venture for restaurateur and James Beard Award Semi-Finalist Garrett Harker and an all-star team of four co-founders, who share a sense of purpose honed in their combined 209 years of restaurant, hospitality and food service experience. Under the leadership of Harker and master baker Lauren Moran, who studied under the culinary icon Jacques Pepin, Eastern Standard Provisions Company is committed to delivering uncompromising quality into the realm of the hand-held snack.
“We wanted to extend our reach and honor the passion and inspiration of the new vanguard of American brewers with an honest snack,” said Harker. “So much of what we offer in our restaurants is layered on the respect we have for the artisans of craft beer. For our team, it’s become a natural obsession to deliver lighter, airier, healthier and delicious pretzels paired with sauces of uncompromising quality.”
Eastern Standard Provisions Company’s pretzels are made with uncompromising quality. The Top Knot, Wheelhouse, and Turnbuckle pretzels are made the old-fashioned way, using all-natural vegan ingredients, like barley syrup and turbinado sugar, and never corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. The pretzel dough is left to rest at multiple stages during the baking process, allowing it to rise and capture tiny air bubbles, without the presence of chemicals. The dough is then kneaded, shaped, and rolled out by hand, without the manipulation of machinery, to create a light and airy product. The end result is a pretzel with a perfectly crunchy exterior and a soft center reminiscent of brioche.
Eastern Standard Provisions Company’s pretzels retail between $17.99 and $34.99 (depending on the style and amount).
