Mondelēz International, Inc. has chosen the Fulton Market area in Downtown Chicago, Ill., as the future location of its global headquarters once its current building lease in Deerfield, Ill. expires in April 2020. The maker of Oreo cookies, belVita biscuits, and Triscuit crackers, has signed a long-term lease on a newly-constructed five-story office building at 905 West Fulton, in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant food district.
“We sought a location that reflects our new, dynamic and more consumer-centric growth culture, and which will make existing and future colleagues proud to be working at the global headquarters of a $26 billion dollar global snacking leader,” said chairman and chief executive of Mondelēz International, Dirk Van de Put. “Fulton Market is an exciting part of the City of Chicago that has acquired a well-deserved reputation for world-class food. We’re privileged to be part of this rapidly-developing scene.”
Mondelēz International will occupy the entire building with the exception of some first-floor retail space which will be made available to tenants. Mondelēz International employees will move to the new location in the second quarter of 2020. Colleagues from special-diet leader, Enjoy Life Foods, are also relocating their local headquarters to Fulton Market to allow the independently-run company to have even closer access to the resources of its parent company.
"Chicago is proud to welcome Mondelēz International, one of the world's leading food companies, to their new home in our great city. Mondelēz joins a growing list of food and beverage companies relocating to Chicago, strengthening our place as a leader in the global food industry. I am confident this relocation will be a win-win for the company and our city, and we are looking forward to welcoming more than 400 members of the Mondelez International team to Chicago," said mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Since 2011, the City of Chicago has had 64 Food & Beverage company relocations or expansions announced since 2011 including 11 HQ relocations to Chicago: MarsWrigley, Hickory Farms, McDonald’s, ADM, Kraft, Hillshire, Conagra, Hometown Foods, MeadJohnson, Ferrara Candy Co., and Mondelēz International.
