Product Snapshot: General Mills Foodservice is helping bakeries, restaurants and foodservice operations meet consumer demand for baked items made with simpler ingredients. Beginning this month, the company is introducing a portfolio of baking products with no artificial flavors or colors from artificial sources under its Gold Medal and Pillsbury brands.

The removal of artificial flavors and colors reflects General Mills’ commitment to using more recognizable ingredients in its products, including the high-quality baking mixes and frozen baked goods that operators rely on for scratch-like quality and consistent results. From brownies, cakes and muffins to cinnamon rolls and scones, the reformulated versions of these products will begin rolling out this month.

“We are always looking at ways to improve our products to meet the changing needs and preferences of today’s consumers,” said Michael Braden, senior culinary manager for General Mills Foodservice. “General Mills is proud to offer a robust portfolio of baking products with a cleaner profile so our operators can feel even better about using these beloved products they already know and trust.”

Gold Medal Biscuit, Griddle and Bread mixes are already available with no artificial flavors and no colors from artificial sources, while Gold Medal Muffin, Brownie and Cake Mix will be available by June of 2018. All of the new Gold Medal products will feature updated packaging with fresh graphics, beautiful photography and easier-to-read instructions. In addition to the Gold Medal mixes, Pillsbury’s Frozen Baked Goods, including Cinnamon Rolls, Scones and Muffins, will be available with no artificial flavors and no colors from artificial sources.

Braden adds that each product has undergone rigorous testing to ensure they maintain the attributes that operators have come to expect in terms of preparation, performance and quality.

“General Mills understands the important role these products play in helping our customers in their own operations,” said Braden. “We have made every effort to ensure our new baking portfolio matches the quality products that they have come to love and are confident the products will continue to deliver great-tasting, consistent results.”
