Equipment Snapshot: MGS Machine Corp. will introduce its Vortex high-speed tray denester this month at PACK EXPO Las Vegas. The Vortex separates trays, clamshells, flanged lids, tubs and buckets from a nested stack and accurately places them—ready for filling—on a flighted or flat-belt conveyor at speeds of up to 300 per minute. Featuring a single-sided cantilevered design, four-axis stepper motor system, stainless steel construction and full washdown capability, the screw denester offers easy installation, five-minute changeovers and superior sanitation, according to the company. It handles a wide range of trays for numerous products, including foods such as bakery products.

The Vortex comes with a standard 30-inch magazine to hold nested stacks. An optional, extended-capacity magazine is available for additional run time. An optional low-hopper sensor and optional stack light with audible alarm alerts operators if materials in the magazine are running low.
