The Biscuit & Cracker Manufacturers’ Association (B&CMA) held its 111th Annual Convention Sept. 21-23 at the Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, SC. The event offered attendees numerous educational, networking and social opportunities.
The convention kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 21, with an hour-long opening reception at the resort’s Lettered Olive Terrace.
Monday, Sept. 22, began with a continental breakfast, followed by a general session from 8-11 a.m. Bill Quigg, B&CMA chairman and president of Richmond Baking, and Shawn Moye, B&CMA allied chairman and executive director of sales for Reading Bakery Systems, welcomed and addressed attendees.
Featured speakers at Monday’s general session were David Reddick, president and CEO of Reddick & Co. International (RCI) and an expert in the global consumer packaged goods industry. Following a refreshment break, Charlie Arnot, a recognized thought leader in food and agriculture and CEO of The Center for Food Integrity, spoke. The center is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to building consumer trust and confidence in today’s food system.
Brief annual member and board of directors meetings followed the general session.
Golf enthusiasts then headed to the Wild Dunes Harbor Course for a golf tournament and shotgun scramble. The day concluded with dinner at the resort’s Grand Pavilion.
Tuesday’s schedule began again with a continental breakfast followed by a general session featuring two speakers: Captain Eugene Paluso, the new commandant for the South Carolina Corp of Cadets at The Citadel, and Frank Abagnale, an internationally respected authority on forgery, embezzlement and secure documents and the subject of the book, movie and Broadway play, Catch Me If You Can.
Following Abagnale’s presentation, attendees were able to enjoy a tour of historic Charleston or a fishing trip.
The convention concluded with a reception at the Boardwalk Inn Pool North in Charleston.
B&CMA will hold its 90th Annual Technical Conference May 3-6 at the Hilton Tampa Downtown in Tampa and its 112th Annual Convention Oct. 18-20 at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix. For more information, visit www.thebcma.org.
