Herr Foods Inc., Nottingham, Pa., announced an agreement with Silk City to acquire a majority share in the Clifton, N.J.-based snack food manufacturer.
Herr’s produces a full line of snacks, including potato chips, pretzels, tortilla chips, cheese curls and popcorn, which it sells under the Herr’s, Flavor Mill, 1853 and Good Natured brand names. It sells its products nationwide through direct-store delivery route systems as well as numerous other channels, including direct to retailers through their warehouses.
Silk City is a contract manufacturer that produces a line of waffle-sandwich-style snacks, pizzelle-type snacks and the popped chip segment.
“We’re very excited about the array of snack opportunities Silk City provides us,” says president Ed Herr. “With this new partnership, we expand our portfolio of manufacturing capabilities and believe we have an even greater innovation platform for responding to consumers’ growing interest in more diverse, natural and low-fat snacks.”
In addition to manufacturing product for its brands, Herr’s offers contract manufacturing services. Its partnership with Silk City will expand the company’s capabilities in this area as well.
Herr’s plans to operate Silk City as a separate company.
