“American Society of Baking is deeply honored that AIB International is offering such tremendous support to this unique scholarship competition,” said Kent Van Amburg, executive director of American Society of Baking. “Our collaboration is perfect because both ASB and AIB International are passionate about baking, quality learning, and bringing new ideas to market.”

“Through this partnership with ASB and our contribution to the Product Development Contribution, we’re proud to support the next generation of baking talent,” said Andre Biane, president and CEO of AIB International, “For 100 years, we have built our business by serving the baking industry. Our $40,000 contribution to this year’s Competition demonstrates that our commitment to the industry continues and has never been stronger.”

ASB’s Product Development Competition is designed to help baking, food science and culinary students discover ways to transition from college campus to fulltime employment in the wholesale baking industry. The unique program blends educational opportunities with professional networking at BakingTECH, the baking industry’s most important annual conference.

About the Product Development Competition

ASB’s Product Development Competition is open to college students nationwide. The 2020 theme is Novel Protein Sources, which are uncommon ingredients such as insects, algae, and seaweed. Judges will be evaluating the potential success of product entries in today's market and technical problem-solving skills used in product development.

Thanks to the support of AIB International, more than $40,000 will be awarded at ASB’s 2020 Product Development Competition at BakingTECH. Each finalist is guaranteed a scholarship, but First Place comes with unparalleled bragging rights and a trophy for the winners’ school. First Place will award a $5,000 scholarship for each team member. Second Place will be a $3,000 scholarship for each team member. Third Place will be a $2,000 scholarship for each team member.  All finalists are provided with complimentary memberships to American Society of Baking and are given transportation and lodging to attend BakingTECH. Finalists are placed front and center to share their baking innovations with an audience of baking professionals and a panel of judges from high-profile baking industry companies including AB Mauri, Lallemand, Turano Baking and Cain Foods.
