At the 2019 ABA Convention in Naples, FL the American Bakers Association recognized a dozen members for improving safety at their facilities as part of the ABA Safety Recognition Program.

Launched 2016 by ABA, the program has recognized a total of 169 individual member facilities. In 2017, 156 facilities were recognized; in the program’s inaugural year 55 facilities received recognition. In total, 237 ABA members have participated in the Safety Recognition Program, up from 219 in the previous year.

“The industry’s dedication to workers’ safety not only shows our member companies' focus on employees’ well-being, but also helped companies reduce costs associated with fewer injury claims, saving the industry nearly $16 Million in the past year,” said Robb MacKie, president and CEO of the American Bakers Association.

In the last year, the North American baking industry dropped total recordable incident rate from 5.0 to 4.7 which is a .3 percent reduction in injuries.  The industry employs approximately 800,000 people which means 2400 fewer injuries across the industry.
