The American Bakers Association (ABA) has joined Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, a multi-stakeholder initiative working to unite the agricultural supply chain in defining, measuring and advancing the sustainability of food, fiber and fuel production.
“Sustainability is key to bakers’ interactions with their customers and consumers,” says Robb MacKie, ABA president and CEO. “By joining Field to Market, we hope to advance our industry’s commitment to continuous improvement of its collective sustainability practices, ensuring positive impacts on the environment and communities we serve and where we operate.”
Working with grower organizations, academia, conservation groups, public sector partners and leading companies, ABA says it will help catalyze opportunities for continuous improvement in productivity, environmental quality and human well-being across the agricultural value chain.
“To continue to improve the sustainability of the food and agriculture sector, we need collaboration from growers, agribusiness, food, restaurant and retail companies, conservation groups and public sector partners around a common framework to measure progress,” says Rod Snyder, Field to Market president. “We are pleased to welcome the American Bakers Association to Field to Market and look forward to collaborating with the grain-value chain on opportunities to advance sustainable outcomes in agriculture.”
