Gerald D. “Jerry” Doherty, former president of Dunbar Systems Inc., Lemont, IL, died April 15 at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, AR, after a recent battle with cancer. He was 77.
Doherty was raised and graduated high school in Paola, KS. He furthered his education at Kansas University, earning his Mechanical Engineering degree in 1963. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Doherty worked in the paper industry for four years with the Beloit Corp., before beginning his 28-year career with the Sara Lee Corp. as vice president of engineering. After retiring from Sara Lee, Doherty continued in the food industry as president of Dunbar Systems. He continued to serve as executive adviser to Dunbar Systems after retiring from the company and moving to Pineville, MO.
Doherty is survived by his wife, Claudine; children Bryn Leigh Doherty of Chicago and Ryan Elliott Doherty of Grantsville, UT; two grandsons; a brother; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26, at 12:30 p.m. at the River Ranch Resort in Noel, MO. Doherty will be laid to rest in McNelly Cemetery in Paola, KS.
