Donald R. Shaffer of Sidney, Ohio, died April 12 at the age of 87.
Shaffer founded Shaffer Manufacturing Corp. in 1986, after serving as vice president and general manager of Peerless and vice president and general manager of the BE/W Mixer Division in Sidney.
Shaffer was a World War II Navy veteran who served on the USS Cowpens (CVL 25) in the Pacific. He was a life member of the Sidney American Legion, AMVETS and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and a member of the Moose and Eagles Lodges at Indian Lake, Ohio. In addition, he was a former member of the Sidney Rotary Club; former board member of the Sidney-Shelby Co. Chamber of Commerce; and a member of The First Christian Church.
Shaffer is survived by his wife, Sarah; sons Mike and Steve and their wives, Patti and Cindy, respectively; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Becky) Ewing; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Bagwell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney. Burial with full military honors provided by the Sidney American Legion Post 217 will be at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson.
