Winners of the Flexible Packaging Association’s (FPA) 57th annual Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards feature innovative enhancements that marry consumer trends and needs with technical advancements in materials, graphics, structure and sustainability to produce outstanding flexible packaging solutions.
In all, 78 flexible packages were submitted to the 2013 competition by 29 flexible packaging companies. Of those, 25 packages were honored within one or more categories, including Packaging Excellence, Printing Achievement, Technical Innovation, and Environmental & Sustainability Achievement. The awards were presented on Feb. 26 in conjunction with the FPA’s annual meeting.
Winning packages included a gold award in printing achievement for Peruplast S.A., which helped present the Kusi Wayta (Flower of Joy) product (shown), consisting of selected snacks prepared with native Peruvian fruits and seeds. The packaging format and the graphics featuring native motifs and landmarks effectively communicate to the consumer gourmet and native characteristics of the product. The packaging material structure provides the required protection for the sensitive contents, while glossy and matte areas of the package greatly enhance shelf impact.
Printpack Inc. received a silver award in packaging excellence for Walkers Shortbread’s Re-Seal It, a 4.4-oz. mini pack for shortbread cookies that represents the first use of Re-Seal It material on a vertical form/fill/seal system. The innovative reclosable format allows consumers to easily open and reclose the tamper-evident package as it also helps extend the product’s lifespan and secure Walkers’ brand identity longer in the pantry. Printpack’s premium print quality and package structure also enhance the shelf appeal and display properties.
