Nassau Candy to expand N.Y. facility, add 15 jobs

Tax incentives to help Nassau build 7,210-sq.-ft. addition.

Nassau Candy will expand its 127,000-sq.-ft. Hicksville, N.Y. headquarters and add 15 jobs, Newsday reported last week.

The specialty candy manufacturer and distributor will construct a 7,210-sq.-ft. addition to the facility with help from Nassau County Industrial Development Agency (IDA), which added the additional tax relief to incentives already awarded to the company.

Newsday reported that in 2013 the IDA granted Nassau Candy a 20-year property tax break in return for remaining in Nassau County, rather than moving to New Jersey or elsewhere. Nassau also operates in Florida, Michigan, California and Texas.

In 2015, the IDA supported a $4.3-million expansion of the Nassau Candy building, adding 26,000 sq. ft.

Daniel P. Deegan, the company’s attorney, told Newsday, “They’ve been growing. They are on a good business cycle.”

Nassau Candy, which already employs 435 people at the Hicksville facility, produces chocolate-covered raisins and pretzels, fudge, fruit slices, roasted nuts and other sweets.
