Capol — a leader in the development of sustainable coatings and glazes for the confectionery industry — is introducing two new organic products.
The company’s new acacia-based coatings and polishes are now appearing on candy throughout North America. A new Capol organic line of sunflower-oil-based anti-sticking agents also is making its debut this year on fruit snacks, gummies and vitamin chews.
Katherine Clark, v.p. of sales for Capol in the United States and Canada, points out that organic, sustainable products are becoming more and more important and today account for 10 percent or more of Capol’s sales.
“There’s a growing ‘farm to fork’ mentality among consumers today,” Clark notes. “People are more educated. They want to know where the ingredients are from and how their food is processed as well.”
The company’s polishes and glazes are the “secret” ingredients that help keep chocolates and other candies from sticking together, while providing a pleasant, glossy appearance. Developed from natural, sustainable materials, Capol’s products help assure a longer shelf life without affecting taste.
“Unlike other finishing agents, our organic agents are liquid — rather than powder-based — and don’t require additional mixing, blending or heating with other raw materials before they can be applied,” Clark says. “Our certified liquid agents also offer a shelf life of up to one year or more, unlike other competitive products.”
Capol also has a new line of sustainable palm-oil based anti-sticking agents. The new line has been certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil’s Mass Balance system.
Capol today is the leading supplier of confectionery finishing agents in the NAFTA region with more than a 50 percent market share among the industry’s major brands, stores and private labels.
The North American confectionery market is expected to grow at an annual rate of about four percent over the next few years. Clark predicts, however, that Capol’s organic products will help generate sales well above the industry’s growth rate over the same period.
Founded in 1975, Capol GmbH is headquartered in Elmshorn, Germany, and is a member of the Freudenberg Group. The company’s more than 250 customized products are sold in more than 75 countries around the world. Based in the Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Ill., Capol LLC is the company’s U.S. subsidiary.
