This year's Sweets and Snacks Expo is slated to be the largest in the show's history! Jelly Belly greeted vistors as they walked the show floor on the first day, Tuesday, May 21.
The Original Gourmet Lollipop Queen also waved to those walking the show floor, as they passed the Original Gourmet booth.
The show floor was filled with colorful booths from all the major confectionery companies. Bazooka showed off their Juicy Drop Taffy products, while right behind them the new Ferrara Candy Co. highlighted the fact that Farley's and Sather's and Ferrara Pan had recently merged.
Meanwhile, smaller companies such as Simple Square got a chance to show their unusual products off to the masses. The company only uses five ingredients and they try to get most of their flavors from herbs and spices.
There also were plenty of demonstrations going on throughout the show floor, including this one by a Sweetworks employee, who was using the company's Sixlets product to decorate a cake.
Around 1:30 p.m. though, the place to be was the Just Born booth, near the front of the Expo.
The company hosted a press conference featuring David Yale, Just Born's president and coo, and their new Mike & Ike Sponsor, Nelly.
As he took the mic, he told the crowd that he's loved the candy since he was six years old, and that it was his allowance money that probably made the company prosper back then. And then he shook his tail feather. Just kidding.
