TheMars bar has decreased in size by 11.6% in Australia, dropping from 60g to 53g, reports Chris Pepper inThe Sunday Telegraph. And theMars bar isn’t the only one. Ninety other chocolate products of Mars Australia will have their size reduced as well, Pepper writes. But according to the company, it’s all due to portion control.
Citing Mars Snackfood Australia general manager Peter West, Pepper links the drop in size directly to the obesity issue in Australia, noting that the bars had too many calories. Although the reduced-sizeMars bars will keep the same price, $1.70, some of the company’s other chocolate bars would lower their prices.
The company also said it will offer clearer nutritional labeling and will remove artificial colors and flavors from itsMars,Snickers andMilky Way bars, Pepper reports.
