Ring Pop will once again ask edible bling devotees to choose the candy’s next sensational lollipop flavor.
Bazooka Candy Brands, maker of Ring Pop, has teamed up with rock band R5 for a tasty Facebook flavor face-off.
The band has selected three mouthwatering new Ring Pop flavors — cherry limeade, strawberry banana and grape —and will rally fans to visit the Ring Pop Facebook page and vote for their flavor choice.
The third annual Choose the Next Big Flavor Competition runs through May 2ndand the winning Ring Pop flavor will arrive on store shelves this fall.
The Facebook flavor face-off will tempt taste buds as part of a larger campaign that kicked-off last month inviting fans to share photos and videos of themselves sporting their edible bling with the #RockThatRock for a chance to be featured in a music video this summer.
Bazooka Candy Brands and R5 will continue to collaborate throughout 2014 as part of a year-long partnership for Ring Pop and Ring Pop Gummies.
Anthony Trani, v.p. of marketing at Bazooka Candy Brands, says that the Choose the Next Big Flavor competition has become a fun event that fans look forward to every year.
“We’re more than thrilled to collaborate with R5 on it this year, not only because of their incredible talent and global popularity, but also because they are so enthusiastic about Ring Pop,” he says.
As for the band, R5 says they’re having a lot of fun working with the Ring Popand their fans.
“We can’t wait to see our very own Ring Pop flavor arrive on store shelves! We are looking forward to having the fans help us choose between our three favorite flavors,” the band says.
For three weeks, the Ring Pop brand will host the “battle royale” on its Facebook page for fans across the country to voice their choice. R5 will reach out to their fans on social media to vote for one of the three flavors that the band personally selected as their favorites.
R5 was originally formed in 2008 by siblings Riker, Rocky, Ross and Rydel Lynch, and their friend, Ellington Ratliff. They self-released their first EP, Ready Set Rock in 2010. R5’s debut EP Loud was released in February 2013, which featured the lead single and title track “Loud.” The band’s first full-length album, Louder, was released in September 2013 debuting at #24 on Billboard’s Top 200 and #2 on iTunes’ Pop chart. Louder was just released internationally and has rocketed to #1 in 10 countries on the iTunes Chart. The album includes four songs from Loud, plus “Pass Me By” and new single “(I Can’t) Forget About You.” R5 are currently on the first leg of their Louder World Tour.
This marks the third year of the Choose the Next Big Flavor competition on Facebook.
In 2013 Bella Thorne, musician and star of the hit Disney Channel original series Shake it Up rallied her fans to choose strawberry lemonade over The Ready Set’s favorite flavor, cookies and cream.
The 2012 Choose the Next Big Flavor competition, where music acts Megan & Liz, Mindless Behavior and Kicking Daisies battled it out for the winning flavor, yielded unprecedented fan engagement. The contest garnered more than 62,000 votes on Facebook, and over the course of its four-week run, reached 1.7 million people. After an extremely close competition, Megan & Liz’s flavor choice, raspberry lemonade, was ultimately selected as fan favorite.
