This year’s iteration of the North American packaging conference and exposition drew record crowds. The event attracted nearly 32,000 attendees—the most in the show’s history—who strolled through more than 2,300 exhibitors and across 1 million net square feet of exhibit space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. In several focused areas of the floor, experts presented sessions tackling the interests of different market sections In the Reusable Packaging Pavilion, representatives from AIM Global, Polyfuze Graphics, AsReader, Metalcraft, and Qualcomm Technologies discussed data issues in the panel “Technology Standards for Labeling and Data Capture with Reusable Transport Packaging.
On the Industry Speaks stage, leaders from various industry associations presented during sessions focused on the interests of their members. David Walsh, vice president of communications and membership with SNAC International, led lively discussion during “The State of Snacking: An Innovation Eruption.”
Representatives from Shurtape Technologies demonstrated the company’s packing and case-sealing technology at its booth. The company, in operation for more than 135 years, offers a range of equipment and consumables for case erecting and sealing applications.
In its booth, JLS Automation showcased its vision-guided primary and secondary robotic packaging technology. According to the company, the equipment is easy to use but able to tackle complex packaging challenges, all while tackling strict sanitary requirements.
Kocotek offers industrial processing equipment for bakery, nut, chocolate, and confectionery applications. Its areas of expertise include chocolate manufacturing, peanut and tree-nut processing, bar forming, and more.
Cremer specializes in counting equipment for a range of food applications, including bakery, frozen food, confectionery, and others. The company reports that the technology helps producers avoid unnecessary giveaways and can handle products of nearly any shape, size, or weight.
In business for more 130 years, Reading Bakery Systems offers a range of equipment for snack and bakery processing and production. Technology on display at PACK EXPO Las Vegas included automated continuous mixing system, Hydrobond Technology instant hydration system, various solutions for bakery processes, and flexible snack systems.
Sacmi manufactures machines and complete plants for packaging companies. Its solutions include flow wrappers, shrink-sleeve labelers, pressure-sensitive label application, pick-and-place machines, and other packaging technology.
While the PACK EXPO Las Vegas exhibits and sessions featured a lot to interest to bakery and snack professionals, the city outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center also offered notable sights, sounds, and treats. Dominique Ansel Las Vegas, operated by its namesake famed baker, operates inside Caesars Palace; there, guests can sample his famed “cronut” creation, pain au chocolat, and other items.
PACK EXPO Las Vegas attendees flying out of Harry Reid International Airport could grab one last indulgent treat to enjoy on their way home. Sprinkles vending machines are situated throughout the terminals, enabling travelers to select from a range of fresh-baked cupcakes.
