A federal judge has decided Madelaine Chocolate Co.’s $49 million case against Great Northern Insurance Co. should go to trial after he wasn't able to rule in favor of the chocolatier nor the insurance company.
A federal appeals court has reopened Madelaine Chocolate’s $49-million case against Great Northern Insurance Co. after a U.S. District Court ruled in favor of the insurance company late last year.
“It took 65 years to build it, four hours to destroy it and two years to rebuild. I’d say we’re not doing too badly.” Jorge Farber, president and ceo, Madelaine Chocolates.
The 2012 storm caused $50 million in damage to the company, leaving most of the its chocolate molding lines inoperable and the business unable to rehire many of its employees.
