Company looks to expand effort as all participating farmers pass certification audit.

The successful launch and completion of its HERSHEY LEARN TO GROW program in Ghana, which was implemented 18 months ago to help increase the incomes and improve living standards of more than 1,400 cocoa farm families there, has prompted The Hershey Co. to expand the initiative.
A new study ranking consumer packaged goods companies lists a confectionery manufacturer as the fastest growing large company and a snack bar maker as the fastest growing small company.
The National Advertising Division (NAD) has recommended that the Hershey Co. change the advertising for its Brookside Chocolate-Covered Candies because as it stands right now, the ads are misleading.
CocoaLink, a program sponsored by Hershey, registered 45,000 Ghanaian cocoa farmers in 1,800 communities, who used 1.2 million free text messages to modernize practices and increased their yields by 45.6% in three years.
“Given our faster-than-expected progress, we are pushing ourselves even harder and will set new environmental goals in our next CSR report using our 2013 numbers as our baseline,” adds O’Day.
