Grupo Bimbo and Flowers Foods are said to be among the early bidders for Canada Bread, the bakery business that’s majority-owned by Canadian food group Maple Leaf Foods.
Flowers Foods announces Flowers Baking Co., of Henderson LLC, Henderson, Nev., will begin production late this year. The company will produce Nature’s Own bread for markets in southern Nevada and parts of California.
Flowers Foods Inc., Thomasville, Ga., completes the acquisition of Hostess Brands’ bread assets, including 20 bakeries; the Wonder, Merita, Home Pride, Butternut and Nature’s Pride brands; and 36 depots from Old HB Inc. (formerly Hostess Brands). The adjusted purchase price was $355 million.
