GODIVA Chocolatier has appointed John Galloway as its chief marketing and innovation officer, effective Oct. 22. Galloway will be responsible for leading the brand’s global marketing and innovation team and joins the business’ Global Executive Committee.
Though this marks only the second year pladis has exhibited at Sweets & Snacks Expo, it continues to aggressively build on its debut last year with a broad range of “new ventures,” says Brian Blanchard, managing director of pladis americas.
Executive Chef Chocolatier Thierry Muret has worked for Godiva more than 30 years. Often when Muret’s asked how he could work for just one company that long, the native Belgian explains that “no one year was similar.” It’s a matter of “looking at our patrons and continuously evolving with the times,” he says. And that extends to the company’s Gold Discovery Collection.
Godiva will soon have a new ceo. Annie Young-Scrivner will take the helm of the global premium chocolate brand Sept. 14, succeeding Mohamed Elsarky, who is stepping down after seven years to pursue other projects, the company said in a news release.

In the 11th edition of “Chocolate Candy Market in the U.S.,” Packaged Facts, a division of MarketResearch.com, reports that premium chocolate makes up just 18 percent of total chocolate dollar sales and 14 percent of unit sales, but it still leads the way in developing flavor trends and new product formulations, particularly in the use of clean-label ingredients.
