Dum Dum maker Spangler Candy Co. has acquired the Bit-O-Honey brand from Pearson’s Candy Co., the Toledo Blade reported.

Introduced in 1924, the honey and roasted almond confection will be produced in Minnesota for the time being, but Spangler hopes to move production to its West Campus in Bryan, Ohio. It will ship from the Bryan facility starting Jan. 1.

Kirk Vashaw, Spangler’s chairman and CEO, told the Toledo Blade that Bit-O-Honey complements Spangler’s portfolio of classic brands, which also includes Circus Peanuts and Saf-T-Pops.

 “Its history and nostalgic appeal blend perfectly with our existing brands,” he said.

In 2018, Spangler Candy Co. acquired the Necco wafers brand, along with Sweethearts and Canada Mints, after the New England Confectionery Co. closed its doors. Spangler relaunched Necco wafers in June and July after a soft launch of Sweethearts for Valentine’s Day.
