Recognizing that some consumers, especially women, could be tired of chunky, clunky big bars, CocoaPlanet has designed a chocolate targeting the feminine mystique. The compact-shaped chocolate comes packaged in richly colored boxes that are resealable and easily fit into one’s purse or pocket. More taste, less sugar is the company mantra. Each premium dark chocolate (64%) 20-gram chocolate disk contains only 7 to 8 grams of sugar (depending on the flavor) and less than 100 calories. Alternatively, the disks can also be added to a mug of steamed or microwaved milk to create hot chocolate. Text on the inside box flap offers wine and chocolate pairing tips or directions on preparing hot chocolate.
Inspired by her culinary-charged Sonoma surroundings, founder Anne McKibben focused on using the contemporary flavors of the region, selecting only all natural or organic ingredients. To capture these flavors like fireflies in a jar, she and her husband developed a patent-pending process that places ”pearls of flavor” under dimple-like depressions in each disk-like wafer.
The new line comes in five flavors: Salted Caramel, Vanilla Espresso, Chocolate Olive, Mandarin Orange and Cocoa Mint. The 0.7-oz. disks retail for $3.50 - $4.00.
