Nassau Candy South, a division of Nassau Candy Distributors, Inc., has acquired McClain’s Old Florida Gourmet, a distributor of specialty food and candy primarily throughout Florida, the companies announced Wednesday.

McClain’s, which distributes more than 4,200 products from 75 suppliers, will become a division under Nassau Candy South, McClain’s CEO and co-owner Kelly Abercrombie said. Abercrombie and another McClain’s owner, Taylor McClain Mock, will continue to grow McClain’s business.

“We consider this a synergistic combination,” Abercrombie said. “McClain’s had grown to the point where we had to make a decision about significantly expanding logistics, technology and geographic penetration, which Nassau Candy already has. The transaction also provides our customers with a larger number of products and short-run private label customization, and they still will be able to handpick their order and buy less than case quantities,”

Andrew Reitman, president of Nassau Candy South, said there is “significant opportunity” for Nassau products among McClain’s established customer base.

”Nassau Candy South is tremendously excited to partner with Kelly and Taylor in this transaction,” Reitman said. “We believe there is significant opportunity to build upon the great products and customers that McClain’s has established both within our existing customers and new prospect customers.”

Sarasota-based Citra Products of Florida, which produces fruit-eating kitchen utensils and also is owned by Abercrombie and Mock, is not included in the transaction.
