Easter by Numbers
Easter confectionery sales shot up 3.8% in 2010, according to the National Confectioners Association, citing data from Chicago-based market research firm SympthonyIRI Group. That’s despite the early date (April 4) on which the holiday fell, which can mean for less selling time at retail. Supermarket sales increased 5.3%, while drug store sales declined by less than 1%. Unit sales went up across all distribution channels - good news given an overall slowly recovering economy.Save the Date: Easter 2011 will fall on Sunday, April 24 - much later than this year - providing more time following Valentine’s Day for retailers to market and sell products to seasonal consumers.
