The Biscuit &Cracker Manufacturers’ Association (B&CMA) names David Van Laar president. He replaces Stacey Sharpless, who served with B&CMA for 17 years.
Van Laar comes to B&CMA with an extensive industry background, including positions with Pepperidge Farm, Martino’s Bakery, President Baking Co., Keebler and, most recently, Oak State Products, where he served as vice chairman of the board of directors. He has held positions in sales, operations and general management and as CEO on both the branded and contract manufacturing sides of the business, enabling him to serve the needs of member companies more completely.
Van Laar is also familiar with the B&CMA, having served as chair of the Sustainability Work Group, where he received an award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for his pioneering work in bakery ENERGY STAR certification. Most recently, he served as chairman of the board of the B&CMA.
“I have utilized the training available through B&CMA all my career,” states Van Laar. “I have seen the benefits of well-trained employees and the cost savings they deliver. The B&CMA courses deliver more than most bakeries can develop in-house. Education is core to the success of the B&CMA, and we will continue to expand our programs while working with members to implement in their facilities.”
