Just Born Quality Confections has temporarily suspended production at its facilities in Philadelphia and Bethlehem, Pa. in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.
In a statement posted March 23, the company said it would stop production from March 25 through at least April 7. The Peeps & Company store in Center Valley, Pa. closed March 17 and will also remain closed at least through April 7.
Just Born said most of its office associates have been working remotely since March 18, but now all associates will work from home through April 7. During this time, Just Born will clean and sanitize its production facilities, offices and corporate headquarters.
All employees will continue to be paid during this period, Just Born noted.
“Our internal task force for COVID-19 continues to regularly monitor the domestic and worldwide impact of the virus and is following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local and state health and government authorities and the World Health Organization,” the statement reads.
All of Just Born’s Peeps have been produced and shipped to retailers for Easter. The company still has inventory of Mike and Ike, Hot Tamales and Goldenberg's Peanut Chews, but they may go out of stock on individual items.
“We will continue to work with our retail partners to ensure that the fans of our brands can continue to enjoy them during this challenging time,” Just Born said.
