Ferrero has named Gerald R. “Chip” Kunde II as senior v.p. government and institutional affairs, North America.
In this role, Kunde will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive government and public affairs engagement strategy for Ferrero in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Kunde will report to Paul Chibe, president and ceo, Ferrero North America and Ambassador Francesco Paolo Fulci, v.p. of Ferrero International and global head of institutional affairs for the Ferrero Group.
“Chip brings extensive experience within the food industry, and his full understanding of the issues important to our company will ensure that Ferrero continues to have a strong voice in Washington and with our industry partners,” Chibe said.
Kunde assumes the responsibilities of Martino Caretto, who is retiring after 41 years with Ferrero. Caretto has held a variety of roles across the global organization, including in Australia, Italy and North America, most recently as the head of institutional affairs for North America and Mexico.
“I also want to thank Martino for his many years of loyalty and commitment to the company,” Chibe said. “Martino is part of the fabric of Ferrero and has played a key role in its growth within North America. He has been a remarkable representative for the business and our brands and will be deeply missed by many.”
Kunde joins Ferrero from food service distribution company Sysco, where he served as v.p. of government relations since April 2015. In this role, Chip led government relations efforts to promote and protect Sysco’s public policy interests at the local, state, federal and international levels. Prior to Sysco, Kunde was senior v.p. of government relations at Darden Restaurants. In addition to his corporate experience, Chip has held leadership positions at several national and state trade associations, including the International Dairy Foods Association, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the Connecticut Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
“I am honored to join Ferrero and look forward to building on the solid foundation of constructive, respectful and responsible engagement that has guided the company for decades,” Kunde said.
Kunde holds a Master of Public Administration from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Florida.
