When the members of Boy Scout Pack 55 in Northern New Jersey filed into their regular evening Pack meeting a few weeks ago, they had no idea they weren’t in for a typical night.
As they arrived, they were handed a CD, which informed them that they had won the grand prize in the Goetze’s Candy Co.’s Give & Goetze Initiative — which includes a $1,000 check!
The 2012 Give & Goetze was launched by Goetze — known for their Cow Tales and Caramel Creams candies — in the September issue of Boys’ Life. Scouts were asked to work together and solve a puzzle.
Troop winners were then awarded with Candy-Grams courtesy of Goetze’s, to personally deliver to a charity of their choice. And all the winning entries were then placed into the grand prize drawing for $1,000.
Pack Leader Ken Blair and Den Leader Michael Sheridan say the funds will go toward Pack activities, and will help subsidize the cost of summer camp for some of the kids.
“We wanted to give the Scouts the ability to spend some time really getting to know the people in their community while giving them a special treat,” says John Leipold, the company’s director of sales and marketing.
Goetze’s Candy Co. is a fifth-generation family-owned business founded in 1895 that specializes in the combination of caramel and cream sweet treats.
